Biography

Melany Piech is a violinist and Suzuki teacher committed to promoting students’ musical excellence, character development and contribution to their communities. She majored in music as an undergraduate at Bennington College, the first college in America to place the arts on equal footing with academics in the liberal arts curriculum. She received her M.M. in violin performance from the Longy School of Music under the tutelage of Mark Lakirovich, and completed additional studies at the Cremona International Music Academy in Cremona, Italy.

Ms. Piech has performed as a chamber and orchestral musician in the Boston area, where she also served on the faculty of the Tufts University Community Music Program and the Boston Music Project. An active teacher since 2014, Ms. Piech has prepared students for successful auditions for the Boston Youth Symphony, and in 2016 was selected as a Massachusetts Cultural Council Teaching Artist Fellow. Before coming to Hong Kong she was on the Suzuki faculty at the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music.

Passionate about increasing access to instrumental music education, some of her recent projects include directing a violin and cello program serving over 200 elementary-age students, and spearheading an introductory violin class for new refugee families in Minneapolis–Saint Paul.
